Well im quite positive most of you are aware of the Toyota.me auction that sold a few days ago for 90,025. This is one of the most interesting .me auctions I have seen because of the possible trademark issue that comes with the winning bid.

I have done a little digging to find out who was the winner of Toyota.me and came up with these results.

I did a bit more digging and discovered he also registered Porsche.me. I am guessing Georg has some ties to car dealerships?

The title says it all. Win a free .me domain. Unfortunately the contest is not being offered by us here at PLUM.me.

It is actually being offered at another site that I was recently informed about this morning. The rules are simple. You simply suggest a domain.me for example (youhate.me f*ck.me. If they like what you submitted you may be eligible to win a free .me domain name.

Sounds like a pretty good deal right? Well I was doing some thinking while I was at my real job today and came to the conclusion that this actually is a bogus idea.

Why you might ask?
Simple. You submit your wonderful domain.me idea.. they like it then check to see if the name is available. If its available they register it with hopes of turning a profit off of the name. Obviously I dont know this for sure and it is just a theory of mine but it definitely seems like a logical theory.

Lets say they receive X amount of submissions from people and they register lets say 10% of them. They can either get back what they payed for the domains or they can easily turn a profit off of them.

And what do you get?
Well if your lucky you will get a free domain. If your not so lucky.. you get nothing except for a letter saying thanks sucker. Your going to make us rich.

I dont want to post the address to the site because I dont want to assist them in receiving .me ideas. Then again I do want to post the address and inform people of the site and what they may possibly be doing.

So what im going to do is leave out the address as of right now. If I get enough feedback from people wanting to know the address then I will edit this post and have it displayed.

Does the Alexa ranking system not like the new .me domain?

I ask this question because if you try to input your .me domain in to the rankings search box.. you will get the following response.

"We're Sorry!

You have requested information for an invalid URL. Please enter an URL in the search box above to get Alexa Information."

I have tried different .me domains to see if it may just be my domain but every time I tried a new domain I received the same results. I have been trying this ever since I bought my .me domain and im still surprised that its not being recognized.

I am no expert on how the Alexa system works but I would assume it would not be difficult to add a new line of code in to the system to recognize these new domains but then again.. what do I know. Perhaps they have some secret in store and are just waiting to implement it.

What are your thoughts on this? Do you receive results when you enter in your .me domain?

Lately I have been watching the premium auctions for the .ME domain and today noticed another new domain has jumped in to first place for being the highest priced.

Toyota.me jumped to the top of the list today with the current price at $90,005. Until today I was completely unaware of this domain being offered on the auction.

I have read some some views on this and most are laughing at anyone who is bidding on this domain because of the trademark issues that are possibly at hand. They figure that the winning bidder is going to pay out a huge lump sum of cash to win the domain then receive a cease and desist letter from Toyota who will then ultimately take the domain for free.

Personally I think the people who are bidding on this domain are aware of this and are hoping to quickly sell it to someone else or they are banking that Toyota may just purchase the name from them. Another possibility is that Toyota has actually heard the craze for these new .me domains and may perhaps be interested in owning one them selves.
